International Telecommunications Gateways

An international telecommunications gateway (Gateway) is a telecommunications platform through which all international calls, ingoing and outgoing, will be switched. The Gateway is interconnected with all of the national telephone operators such that all international calls and internet traffic are routed through a single portal. An international gateway can take two forms, depending upon the wishes of the client government, the volume of existing traffic and national telecommunications legislation. The first is a Unique International Telecom Platform which takes control of all incoming and outgoing telecommunications traffic. The second is an International Telecom Supervision Platform which allows volume control; and manages the resource "Destination Country". Depending upon the tariff agreed for incoming calls, a Gateway can provide a new and very significant source of revenue for governments. It allows governments to tax local operators on verified traffic figures and controls the "grey" market. It also enables the state to supervise and monitor calls.

Working on the basis of an exclusive agreement to operate the Gateway under licence from the government, all infrastructure and operating costs are carried by the Paris-based company we work with. The equipment installed is latest generation which ensures high quality telecommunications with the bandwidth necessary to cover peak traffic and redundancy and to optimise telecommunications in-country. The cost of equipment, operating costs and the share of revenue for the government and contractor are settled through the charges levied by the Gateway within the framework of international interconnection revenue collected from international operators.
